Just below Thoqsikhar Mosque, Khapalu

Thoqsikhar mosque is around 500 years old and is situated on top of a hill at 2900 metres, overlooking the town of Khapalu. The views are extensive and include the spectacular Haldi Cones, and the confluence of the Shyok and Hushe rivers, tributaries of the Indus river. This photo is taken three quarters of the way up from the village of Gharbuchang, a walk that takes about 45 minutes and passes through many apricot orchards.   Photo © D. Etherington.
