View from Thoqsikhar Mosque, Khapalu

Thoqsikhar mosque is around 500 years old and is situated on top of a hill at 2900 metres, overlooking the town of Khapalu. The views are extensive and include the spectacular Haldi Cones, and the confluence of the Shyok and Hushe rivers, tributaries of the Indus river. This photo is taken from a viewpoint just past the mosque, overlooking the town of Khapalu. It is said that large rocks were rolled from the top of this hill, and the new palace was built just beyond the furthest point reached by the rocks.  Photo © D. Etherington.
