This is the view from what used to be one of the highest houses in the area, but in recent years development in the once quiet villages of Bhagsu (below) and Dharamkot (slightly to the right) has been creeping ever nearer. Originally a pilgrimage place with its ancient Shiva temple, Bhagsu is now popular with Punjabi families staying for the weekend. Dharamkot however is now almost entirely populated by Israeli travellers, with many signs in Hebrew.
The two villages will probably merge soon, but it is lovely and peaceful if you wander away from where the roads finish. Photograph © D.Etherington
