Skardu is situated at an altitude of 2300m in the upper Indus valley, at its confluence with the Shigar river. The valley is several miles wide at this point, and separates the Karakoram and Ladakh mountain ranges. The climate is a high altitude cold desert, the temperatures can vary between 27°C and -24°C. The airport has regular flights to and from Islamabad – the flights are spectacular with views of Nanga Parbat and K2.
