The swannery shelters behind the famous
Chesil Beach on Dorset's Jurassic Coast and is a sanctuary for up to 1,000 mute swans. It dates back to the 14th century and still provides feathers for quills used by Lloyds of London to register insurance losses.
From the end of May the public are allowed to wander around and view the friendly swans and cygnets at close range.
