This dam itself is actually located on Swiss territory but surrounded by the Italian Border.
Virtually the entire reservoir together with the natural catchment area where around one third of the collected water originates, is in Italy.
The dam is accessible by road from the Swiss village of Avers via a long tunnel, whose exit doors can be seen here by the Italian flag.
