The pass is an ancient route from Thusis to St Moritz in eastern Switzerland, and is very popular with motor cyclists.
It runs parallel with the Julier Pass and reaches a height of 2315m above sea level where it opens out onto a small plateau with a lake and the Hospice shown here.
