This was taken next to the Aletschbord Chapel, a short walk from the ski resort of Belalp which can be reached by cable car from Blatten. There is a good view from here of the Aletsch glacier, where In July 2008, a few weeks after this photo was taken, a new 124m long hanging footbridge across the end of the glacier was opened.
Every August a traditional sheep festival is held here, known as the 'Schäferwochenende', when more than a 1,000 sheep are collected up via treacherous mountain tracks. In September 2012 Schäferwochenende festival featured in the BBC program 'Country File'
