Between the
lower and
upper Los Gaitanes gorges in El Chorro the terrain opens up into a wide valley with the canal flowing along one edge and the Malaga to Seville railway on the other.
This area is known as La Hoya, and contains some popular climbing areas. It is unofficially accessible via the railway tunnels, but the fine (in 2014) was €6,000; there is also a path over the mountain.Photo © D.Etherington
