This tree-shaded close next to the Cathedral has the highest concentration of
Grade I listed buildings in Exeter.
The house to the right of the ivy-covered building is No 7, which in 1662 became the town house of the Earls of Devon, and was rebuilt in 1814 for the Devon and Exeter Institution. Next on the right are Nos 8. 9 and 9A, once including a canon's house and the Law Library. At the end is No 10 with an impressive oak door, which has been used by the Cathedral authorities for its entire life from about 1500.
