This is inside the main room of the the Custom House which was built on
Exeter Quay in 1680 to house the officials who collected taxes on traded goods. It is often regarded as the oldest Custom House in Britain
and has some very fine architecture, including three intricate plaster ceilings dating back to 1639-1727.
It is currently occupied by a company specialising in high quality hand made textiles imported from
India and Bangladesh, and is open to the public during business hours.
