Poldhu, which means "black pool" in Cornish, lies on the Lizard Peninsular 2km north of Mullion.
In December 1901, on the cliffs above this beach, Guglielmo Marconi conducted his famous experiment in December 1901, sending the first transatlantic radio message to Marconi's receiving station on Signal Hill, St.John's, Newfoundland. The beach is very popular with surfers.
